That’s me
Bio
Lilac Madar, born in 1975 in Haifa, is a visual artist. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem in 2000. Continuing her academic journey, Madar pursued a Master's degree in Art History Research from Tel Aviv University, completing her Thesis in 2015 with a full scholarship. She later earned a certificate in art education from the Kerem Institute, Jerusalem, in 2018.
Madar's work has gained international recognition, with exhibitions held worldwide and her pieces included in museum and private collections. She has been the recipient of numerous scholarships and participated in prestigious Art Residencies.
Audience interaction has become an inherent aspect of Madar's practice as she strives to cultivate participatory experiences that deepen connection and understanding of the themes present in her art.
Her increasing interest in viewer involvement became integral to the shrines showcased in her “Spell” solo exhibition (2020), prompting a deeper exploration of the performative elements within her art. This led her to concentrate on five principles: object/installation, artist-viewer relations, giving, taking, and transformation. This shift in focus paved the way for the "American Dream" Project developed during her SVA Residency, which resulted in the "Old Glory" participatory performance that debuted in New York in 2022. Currently, Madar is deeply involved in PoppyPink: a performance production set to take place in Central Park, New York, in late October 2024.
